St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, Río Grande $$$$
From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:Situated on a two-mile-long beach, this St. Regis has all the trappings to become one of the island's top-flight resorts. Laced with nature trails, the grounds are landscaped in a lush natural style that creates privacy while gracefully integrating the hotel. A mere 20 minutes east of the San Juan airport, its rooms and suites fill a handful of three- and four-story villas. Rooms have private balconies or patios, and are more than comfortable and serene, done in a neutral palette with woodtrimmed furnishings. The large pool area is engineered for intimacy: Dividers separate sections of water, creating terraces. The poolside restaurant, Seagrapes, is excellent for easy lunches of pizza or perhaps a Niçoise salad. The emphasis is on service, yet no more than two parties can check in at once, leaving other new arrivals to cool their heels, and making dinner reservations at Fern (a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant) can be unnecessarily complicated. The butler service, however, is idealhe or she will unpack your bags, iron out wrinkles, bring French-press coffee gratis, and do pretty much anything you can think up. 2011 Hot List
