Concierge.com's insider take:
A small, newly renovated spot right on the beach, the Bravo Beach Hotel has only nine rooms, plus a two-bedroom villa. All rooms have Italian and Puerto Rican furnishings, though numbers 5 and 7 have the best views. Although created in the cheap-and-chic mold, the Bravo's two-bedroom villa includes direct access to the property's pool and is only steps from the ocean. On-site amenities such as Sony PS2's help keep guests' inner children smiling (no actual kids under 18 are allowed here), and one of Vieques' few wireless Internet connections means business travelers can simultaneously lounge and log-on. The onsite BBH restaurant, which serves tapas, is one of the best on the island.
From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
The beachfront Bravo sits on the northern coast of the still-sleepy island of Vieques, seven miles off Puerto Rico. Formerly a nothing-special motel, it has reopened as a stylish compound painted in David Hockney pastels; in seven of the nine rooms and in the adjacent two-bedroom villa, you can look straight out to sea from floor-to-ceiling windows. Inside, rooms flaunt Frette linens, DVD players, Nintendo, and wireless Internet access. Bathrooms are tiny (no tubs) but are stocked with thick towels and Aveda toiletries. Although there is no proper restaurant, a Dean & Delucastyle grocery called Chef Michael's FoodSpace sells imported wines, cheeses, and other fancy foodstuffs, and a few nights a month Chef Michael himself serves dinner by the pool; at other times, guests in search of good food simply have to walk a few minutes into town.2005 Hot ListWhen to go: December through May.
