Puerto Vallarta hotels
Hotels in Puerto Vallarta and the surrounding coastline run the gamut from high-end chains to boutique hotels and small eco-hideaways. North of Puerto Vallarta, grand all-inclusives dot the Riviera Nayarit, a megadevelopment covering nearly 200 miles of coastline and jungle. Small towns within the Riviera Nayarit have managed to maintain their laid-back ambience and inexpensive prices—Sayulita's romantic Villa Amor, for instance. On the southern tip of the Riviera Nayarit, Punta Mita's ritzy residents include the lavish St. Regis and the stylish Hotel des Artistes.
Hotels in downtown Puerto Vallarta itself are a mixed bag of gay-friendly B&Bs, small inns, and rental condos—the best place to stay for easy access to downtown restaurants and shops. South of Puerto Vallarta, style-conscious boutique hotels like Verana claim hillsides above gorgeous secluded coves in settings straight out of a South Pacific fantasy. Farther south, jet-setters hole up with like-minded sybarites at El Tamarindo, and other exclusive retreats.
