Puerto Vallarta's nightlife is nearly as famous as its beaches. It seems everyone drifts toward the malecón as the sun sets, trying to get a glimpse of the magical tinges of green that often flash on the horizon. Nature's light show sets the tone for the evening's entertainment, running the gamut from booze cruises to classy clubs. Many restaurants host post-dinner DJs and musicians, segueing into midnight martini and music clubs. Dancers should check out the Havana-style salsa band at La Bodeguita del Medio and the tango and salsa lessons at J.B.. Scenesters prefer the lounge beds and DJ-spun jazz at De Santos. The nightlife north and south of Puerto Vallarta is concentrated around the resorts. But guests in these areas tend to share a postprandial drink and retire early. If you're a night owl, it's best to stay in Puerto Vallarta.
