Many of Québec City's hotels are located in the Old Port area, within the fortified city's walls and near the banks of the St. Lawrence. The warren of cobblestone streets in the walkable Basse-Ville (lower town) is full of boutiques and restaurants—aimed at tourists, to be sure, but managing to feel charmingly unaffected—and you can easily stroll most everywhere. The iconic, imposing Château Frontenac lords over the skyline at the top of Haute-Ville (the upper town). The areas are separated by a steep ten-minute walk or a short funicular ride.
