There's a great joy to walking off the beach at the end of the day, crossing the street, and sitting at one of the large outdoor restaurants that serve simple food and drinks. Barril 1800, on the east side of Ipanema beach, has views of the water, cold chopp beers, and reliable postbeach food such as cod fritters (bolinhos de bacalhau), cheese bread (pão de queijo), and trusty French fries.
