When the economy's in crisis (and even when it's not) everyone loves a freebie. Whether you're a resident or a visitor, we want to hear about your favorite ways to spend a little--or better yet, nothing--and get a lot out of Rome. --The Concierge.com Editors report a problemPosted on: August 25, 2009 at 11:30PM
I just recently traveled to Rome, Venice, and Florence and discovered that the best way to get around everywhere is by foot.. Everything in Rome is somehow connected without taking transportation. Walking allows you to see everything and not miss a thing. There is a lot of things you can do without spending money, such as visiting the Colosseo from the outside. You can also see the certain parts of the Roman Forum from the outside. You can visit the following places without paying anything: Borghese Garden, Piazza di Spagna, Fontana di Trevi, the Pantheon, Piazza de Navona, Ponte Sant' Angelo, Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Venezia. You can even visit the Basilica di San Pietro for free and see Michelangelo's Pietà. Everywhere in Rome you will find fountains with lots and lots of fresh, clean, safe drinking water, which means all you need is an empty bottle to fill up with water. If you are not much of a walker. You can also purchase an all day train pass, which I believe also works for the bus. Rome is a truly a beautiful city that can be admired and appreciated by just walking.Posted on: December 28, 2008 at 11:59PM
When in Rome... be like a true roman and get yourself a cheap, fun and cool mode of transport to see the city.... rent a scooter! Head down to Scooter Hire (http://www.scooterhire.it/) on via Cavour... and for the price of a train ticket or a meal, rent yourself a Vespa - which gives you the ultimate freedom to get around and see the sights without the buses and throngs of tourists... If you are traveling with a partner, you can ride tandem (dink) around easily on a 125CC (the largest scooter you can rent without a motorcycle license). In the summer of 2007, my partner and I rented one for a week and then packed our bag onto the rack with straps, filled the tank and rode up into Toscano... it was quite an epic trip, and a week on a Vespa isn't for everyone... but if you want a cool, cheap, fun way to see Rome - I would definitely recommend renting a scooter for a few days!
