San Juan see + do
San Juan's attractions offer everything from the historical to the cutting-edge. Beaches, pools, and casinos may get more attention from tourists in search of la vida loca. But Old San Juan's colonial-era Catedral de San Juan Bautista and El Morro fort lend this city a touch of crumbling grandeur—this is, after all, the second oldest European settlement in the Americas (after Santo Domingo). Devote at least half a day to strolling Old San Juan's streets and browsing its shops and galleriesthough preferably not a Monday or Tuesday, when the majority of cruise ships are in port. And though Pikayo, the divine restaurant at the local Museum of Art, gets all the press, the museum collection itself is internationally respected and deserves a long, hard look.
