Santa Barbara shopping
Santa Barbara's prime shopping drag, State Street starts near the beach and runs north through downtown. After the rowdy lower State Street bars peter out around Sola Street, you'll enter the shopping zone, which has an eclectic mix of t-shirt shops, galleries, restaurants, cafés, and cool fashion boutiques. In midtown on State Street, Paseo Nuevo is a two-block open-air arcade of more than 60 shops anchored by Nordstrom and Macy's (www.sbmall.com). An industrial street emerging as a funky shopping district, Haley Street in SoCo (south of Cota Street) has a string of hip shops, including Taka-Puna, which draws fashion stylists and celebs such as Susan Sarandon and John Malkovich, and vintage store Cominichi's. South of Santa Barbara in the little town of Summerland, there's a cluster of ten high-end antiques stores. Montecito's sophisticated shops on Coast Village Road attract the likes of Oprah, Jennifer Lopez, John Cleese, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus with chic fashions, one-of-a-kind jewelry, luxury linens, and objets d'art.
