Seattle nightlife

Seattle is known as the birthplace of grunge rock, and although grunge is no longer in vogue, the music scene is thriving—it seems like every other person you meet is a musician. Most of the nightlife revolves around live music; indie alternative rock and alt-country reign, but you'll also find everything from jazz to Irish roots music. The bar scene isn't as sophisticated or big as in some cities, but you'll find plenty of imbibing in Capitol Hill and Belltown. Capitol Hill is also the center of Seattle's gay and lesbian community and accordingly it has the greatest concentration of gay bars, many of which are clustered on Broadway, Pike, and East Madison streets. Neighbours is a perennial favorite for dancing (1509 Broadway; neighboursnightclub.com). Irreverent alternative weekly paper The Stranger is a good resource for nightlife options (www.thestranger.com; free in locations around the city).
