The Last Word Sea Five, Cape Town, South Africa $$$$
From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:A ten-minute drive from the V&A Waterfront is the affluent suburb of Camps Bay, where Sea Five emerged like one of the many private beach houses that cling to the mountainside. Above a curve of white sand beach that is the crowded home of trendy cafés, bars, and shops, it's a best-of-both-worlds location, close enough to hear waves crashing, high enough to relish the stillness. Six guest rooms sprawl out on three levels, and all come with luxurious bed linens by Mungo Design (a hot South African export) and at least one large terrace (the two-bedroom penthouse has four) looking out at the Twelve Apostles, Lion's Head, or the sea. Interiors are simple but chic, sun-bleached in shades of white and stone. The amiable staff are equally adept at leaving you alone when you want solitude, or providing insider tips on what to do and where to go, should you decide to wander beyond the spacious wooden deck, the infinity lap pool, the friendly bar, and the volumes of locally published books on natural history. Lunch and dinner must be booked in advance. 2011 Hot List
