From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
This small town in the Garrotxa National Park, two hours north of Barcelona, is home to one of Europe's most unusual accommodations. With only five rooms, this new hotel offers an otherworldly experience from the start. After checking in, you're escorted to your transparent glass-and-black-steel pavilion. Inside—aside from a minibar and a closet stocked with sheepskin slippers—the rooms are pure crystal cubes: no beds, no furniture, no phone, no television (there are electric blinds on all four walls), just a lounging mat. Glass floors offer a view of the illuminated bare earth beneath, and the only sound is the trickling of the soaking tub, which is heated to a constant 89.2 degrees. When you go to dinner at Les Cols, the superb one-star Michelin restaurant next door, your lounging mat is made up as a bed for the night. Although initially disorienting, Les Cols Pavellones quickly becomes a magical experience—think a Catalan take on a Japanese ryokan.
2007 Hot ListWhen to go: Spring or fall for the best weather.
