We have just came back from Barcelona (first week of Oct, 2010) and there are couple of things I've wanted to share... See+do. 1. What is definately worth seeing is modernism or everything that has to do smth with Gaudi. Absolute musts are Sagrada familia - don't believe those, who tell you not to go inside - half of the beauty is there and also take a lift to a tower. And...reserve your tickets on their website, you'll safe like 3 hours of your time. Casa Pedrera, Casa Batllo and Parc Gaudi are also fantastic, fairy tale like creature's habitats. Simply woooow! That having said, there is not many more must see objects...you have to go to la boqueria - big market near las ramblas - go with empty stomack and full wallet, cos the food is irresistable. Fruit, tapas, paellas, meat, mushrooms, hand made sweets and choholades to mention a few. Picasso museum is small and nice, although there is no audioguide. 2. If you have time...the Aquarium near the beachfront modern pedestrian bridge with waves is a good place with kids or to see some really funny fishes, big sharks and rays. Barcelona Cathedral is quite pretty and has geese in it's cloisters. No need to go to the tower, the panorama is too ordinary, you'll see the better one from other high points. 3. Poble espaniol (the spanish buildings replicas, representing different regions of Spain) is quite neglected and needs-to-be-washed looking place. Either go when it's dark or don't go. Same with Joan Miro museum - huge lines, but you must love Miro's work if you decide to go or elsewise you may find yourself puzzled why you came - most of the paintings are just crazy. 4. Absolute don't go. Modern/Contemporary Art Museum. The collection is really boring, very avant garde, which again, without audioguides, is impossible to understand. Waste of your money, unless you're into rubbish piles, paintings with doodlings and screaming voice installations. P.s. Check out the fountains in Monthuic, but also check out their operating hours as they differ in summer and winter. Also sometimes they can be closed for maintenance. report a problem
