Beautiful, Modern Hotel

We stayed at the Hotel Diagonal Barcelona for two nights prior to leaving on a cruise for our honeymoon last fall. I instantly fell in love with the hotel and it's modern, minimalist design. It is located in a still developing neighborhood, but it's still a great location. There is a large shopping mall immediately across the street, which was great when I needed to pick up a few items I forgot, and it is an easy walk to the subway (which was very easy to use). Some quirky things to note: - this is one of the hotels included in Royal Caribbean's pre-sailing packages. That means that, sometimes, there may be a lot of obnoxious Americans around (although we tried our darndest to keep our college alumni sweatshirts and athletic shoes put away). Try to not let it bother you. - the front desk staff spoke little English, but were very nice at my attempt at Catalian. A little attempt at Catalian - NOT SPANISH - goes a long way in Barcelona. - the rooms were great, but had features we are not used to in American hotel rooms. The lights were controlled by sliding your room key into a slot in the wall (it took forever to figure that one out!), the "queen sized" bed was actually two individually made up twin beds that had the tendancy to seperate during the middle of the night and the shower didn't have a typical American shower curtain, only a 1/4 of a pane of glass that did little to keep the water from going all over the bathroom! Overall, a great hotel! I would definitely stay there if I make it back to Barcelona in the future.
