St. Barths hotels
Blissfully undeveloped, St. Barths offers only a few hotels—all small, exclusive, and pricey. Most guests return to the same places year after year, and the fabulous meter is always pegged to the limit.
Other options, worth considering, are private villas and apartments. Brook and Roger Lacour's Sibarth Real Estate is the island's largest rental agency, featuring some 250 properties (800-449-1553; www.wimco.com/stbarthelemy.asp). It also offers guests a concierge service, which will arrange everything from transportation around the island to babysitters. Rates start at $1,600 per week for one-bedroom units in season; two- and three-bedroom villas start at $2,500 in season and range up to $29,000. St. Barth Properties, owned by Americans Peg Walsh and Tom Smyth since 1989, represents some 150 units; in season weekly rates range from $1,940 to $123,250 (800-421-3396; www.stbarth.com).
