Concierge.com's insider take:
Esperanto opened in late 2005 on a quiet street in the Vasastan part of central Stockholm and has been a glamorous smash hit despite its steep prices. Channeling New York City's big, chic midtown restaurants, it has immaculate service and lighting and its diners are all-too-aware that they're dining in the most sophisticated spot in town. The decor is understatedan all-white lounge adjoins an elegant, wooden-floored dining room where the only ornamentation are the monkey-shaped candleholders inspired by ones used at Versailles. Thus, all focus is on the food prepared in the open kitchen. If the restaurant's name didn't tip you off, the menu is international fusion: Squab fried in Indian pepper with yuzu jelly in oyster-mousseline paired with seaweed porridge and sesame jus spans about three continents, by our count. A seven-course meal with wine will set you back more than $200 per personbut for a memorable night out, this is the place to go.
