Even though Tokyo is a huge megalopolis, to get a feel of the more traditional Japan, book your stay in a 'ryokan'. These small family owned hotels resemble a bed and breakfast type atmosphere that can really get your relaxed after a day in the hustle and bustle of modern Tokyo. You can sleep on futons on tatami woven mats and enjoy tea brought to you by the inn keepers. For the more adventurous traveler, sign up for the ryokan's meals! You never know what you are going to get, but its worth the gamble. report a problem
