3 Tips About Meiji Shrine

One of the Great places to visit in Tokyo is Meiji Shrine. You enter through the shrine grounds - a beautiful and peaceful green forest . You can hardly believe you're just a few steps away from the busy center of Tokyo. If you're lucky you'll catch a traditional Shinto wedding held at the shrine. The brides usually wear the traditional Japanese wedding kimono, and it's a great peep into Japanese culture. Sundays and Thursdays are the best time to visit the shrine. New families come for a very special and touching ceremony - presenting their babies. A few of the local traditions include purification before praying - rinsing the hands and mouth in the hand-washing stone basin at the entrance to the shrine. Throwing coins into a box is considered offering a present to the gods. The prayer itself is short - bow twice, clap your hands twice, pray and then bow once again. There's more info on this here -
