Concierge.com's insider take:
Devotees of the Turner Classic Movies channel may recognize this restored 1940s hotel from Heaven Knows, Mr. Allison and Fire Down Below (which were shot here), or from studio clips of Rita Hayworth and Robert Mitchum lounging around the pool. Literature fans may remember Bacolet Bay as the inspiration for the castaway shore where novelist Daniel Defoe stranded the title character of Robinson Crusoe. But never mind the backstory: Blue Haven's 55 rooms and suites stand on their own—a brilliant mix of colonial style and midcentury modern, done simply with dark-stained teak floors and mahogany four-poster beds. The hotel faces the sea on three sides, and all rooms have breezy balconies with unrivaled blue views. A domed bluff-top lobby descends to the ocean-view pool, then down one more level to the beach (where Disney's Swiss Family Robinson was filmed) and its No Problem bar. There is also a tennis court, fitness area, children's playground on the beach, and the elegant Shutter's Restaurant on the bay.—Updated by Aaron Barker
