Concierge.com's insider take:
Allan and Cynthia Clovis's holistic mini resort is a place of contradictions. First, for a property that's all about healthy living (huge organic kitchen garden, water purified by an on-site ozone system), this eco-retreat is mighty near the most toxic spot on the island: the airport. Second, this totally hippy-dippy, au naturel hotel abuts the noisy Store Bay/Pigeon Point tourist zone. Yet somehow it all works—people adore this place. Kariwak's 24 cabana rooms are pleasantly minimalist, with bamboo-wicker accents, tiled floors, and expansive patios. The only amenities are AC, phones, and safes, although nobody spends much time in their room anyway. Instead, guests congregate in the Holistic Health Centre (the thatch-roofed ajoupa where tai chi, yoga, and meditation take place) around the ozonated pool and garden Jacuzzi, and in the semi-open, excellent Carib-Creole restaurant decorated with local artwork.—Updated by Aaron Barker
