Mixing Indian, African, French, and British influences (to name just a few), Trinidad and Tobago's cross-pollination of unique ingredients lends itself to some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean. Street food is without a doubt this nation's forte. For the best sampling, head to the waterfront stalls on Store Bay in Tobago, or any one of the vendors around Queen's Park Savannah in Trinidad's Port of Spain. Upscale sit-down restaurants do exist, although the most successful have gone the route of emphasizing fresh Caribbean ingredients over fussy service. Ariapita Avenue in Port of Spain is the current epicenter of Trinidad's restaurant scene; the international options range from French fusion to Nuevo Latino. On Tobago, the "fanciest" restaurants tend to be located within hotels (such as the Seahorse Inn), although a smattering of independent seafood shacks typically contend for best meal.
