Trinidad and Tobago are the southernmost islands in the Caribbean; Trinidad is a mere seven miles off Venezuela's shore. They're fused into a republic, but they could hardly be more different. Trinidad feels like a country, with a multiculti people, a very urban capital, and a sizable oil industry. Tobago is tiny in comparison and is sleepy, beachy, and more touristy. While neither has a fraction of the tourist presence of other Caribbean islands, there's a lot going on here, particularly for environmentally and culturally focused visitors willing to sacrifice posh convenience for a taste of what's real about the Caribbean.
