Concierge.com's insider take:
Grand Turk is, for the most part, the island that hotel-builders forgot. So it was a brave act for two Australian sisters to open a five-suite inn here, especially as it required them to renovate a 150-year-old colonial-style building that was clearly showing its age. How well they succeeded can be judged from the fact that in 2006 the Turks & Caicos Tourist Board named the Grand Turk Inn the best guesthouse in the country. All five suites are air-conditioned, have a full kitchen, and are decorated with antiques the sisters picked up from around the world during years of travel. A white sand beach is right across a quiet road, but if even that takes too much effort, just climb to the inn's sundeck, where from January through March whale watching is as easy as settling into one of the chaise lounges with a cold drink and a little patience.
