Concierge.com's insider take:
Rarely has so much been written about so small an area—not that this famous resort is exactly cramped. It has the entire 1,000-acre island to play with, though most of it, being flat and barren, is not worth the sweat of getting there. Few guests leave the enclave of the resort once they're here—not Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner (wed here!), nor Bruce Willis (who owns a private multivilla compound on the property)—because everything you need is on site. The rooms and private villas are glamorously empty, with whitewashed, beamed cathedral ceilings, romantic white-netted beds, and huge closets for storing your flimsy caftans and bikinis (if you forgot yours, the boutique has a choice selection). The bathrooms are outsized; terraces have Balinese teak daybeds and (usually) a view of the palm-fringed mile of white beach. Some say the two casual restaurants on the main part of the property—one serving Mediterranean fare, the other Pan-Asian—could go head to head with Jean Georges. There's also a palm-thatched bar, a library/Internet/billiards lounge, an immaculate gym that stays open 24 hours, and a 5,500 square foot infinity pool. The COMO Shambhala Spa occupies its own corner of the resort; there are serene treatment rooms where you can get body scrubs and facials using Dr. Hauschka products, private cabanas for deep-tissue massages, and templelike studios for yoga and Pilates classes. Getting far from the madding crowds doesn't get better than this.
