Concierge.com's insider take:

This resort created a major buzz when it first opened in 2005. Architecturally distinctive, its 72 suites are in five coral stone buildings, with marble floors, travertine terraces, and "Mr. Mustique" Oliver Messel–inspired interiors (think wainscoting, pickled pine, mahogany furniture, and redundant but atmospheric ceiling fans). The accommodations, most of which have at least some slice of ocean view, surround an outsized infinity pool, which has a funky in-pool bar-restaurant called Plunge, and lounging “pods” so popular that in season you'll have to set your alarm to be down early enough to claim one. The spa, occupying one of the Palms' dozen acres, has moats around its treatment rooms and all the current hits: Two romantic couples' suites, lots of hydro treatments, and a yoga, Pilates, and tai chi studio. The main restaurant, Parallel23, features an exhibition kitchen, where newly appointed executive chef, Torsten Rumprecht (formerly at La Semanna on St. Maarten) will exhibit his culinary talents.

From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
The Palms claims to bring a new level of luxury to an island already chock-full of top-shelf resorts. And despite teething problems (a 40-minute wait for check-in, a leaky air-conditioner), it delivers. The 72 rooms—marble floors support custom-made mahogany furniture—are housed in five buildings that form a semicircle around an infinity pool. And what a pool: serpentine, bordered by circular beds, and with a swim-up bar and restaurant. More formal is Parallel 23, where Le Bernardin refugee Jasper Schneider does justice to both East (vindaloo lamb with raita) and West (seared dry-aged New York steak). Indulgence reaches its zenith at the 15,000-square-foot spa. Pre-programmed iPods dispensed to guests contain tunes for all ages.—2005 Hot List
