Impruneta: a little gem in the countryside

There are some lovely small towns in the Chianti region a few kilometers south of Florence. My favorite is Impruneta, source of much of the clay used by the Della Robbias for their ceramic sculptures. There's a beautiful piazza that still sees the locals come out at dusk for the traditional passagiata, a nice little church with tombs done by the likes of Michelozzo, and a museum with artifacts ranging from a Ghiberti silver cross to gorgeous old vestments to one of the oldest known pieces of patchwork in the world, the funerary pillow of Medici confidant Antonio degli Agli. Well worth checking out! report a problem
