U.S. Virgin Islands shopping
Tchotchke outposts abound on the islands, but tucked among the tacky T-shirts and commemorative shot glasses are some noteworthy local jewelry stores and art galleries. Shops are usually clustered together in port areas, such as downtown Charlotte Amalie's Dronningens Gade (Main Street) on St. Thomas island, Christiansted's Company Street and Frederiksted's Strand Street on St. Croix, and Cruz Bay's Mongoose Junction on St. John. Many stores in Charlotte Amalie and Frederiksted open only when there are ships in port, so be prepared to brave the crush of the cruise ship mobs.
