One of Vancouver's few boutique hotels, the 95-room Hotel Le Soleil is all about cozy romance. The rooms are done up in red and gold, silk brocade, and ornate Louis XVI–style furnishings. Nearly all are suites, with small but elegant sitting areas perfect for relaxing with a bottle of wine from the minibar. Avoid the third-floor suites, which have no living room windows and are a bit gloomy (corner suites, which do have floor-to-ceiling windows, are a better choice for light-lovers). There's no gym or spa, but fitness-minded guests can get day passes to the state-of-the-art YWCA next door, and treatment packages are available at the nearby Spa Utopia at the Pan Pacific hotel. The on-site restaurant is cute, but for a really special and affordable lunch, head one block north and one block east to Sciué, a Roman-style café where the panini are out of this world (110-800 Pender St., 604-602-7263).
