Vancouver hotels
Vancouver's hotels—until recently—weren't especially design-focused or contemporary. Top-end lodgings are typically spacious and immaculate, with excellent service, but most have decor and amenities dating back a decade or more. The awarding to Vancouver of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games changed that; many hotels are already in renovation mode, and some new contenders have come to town, including the luxurious Shangri-La, the Loden, and a fourth Fairmont property—the Fairmont Pacific Rim, scheduled to open January 2010. A half-billion-dollar Ritz-Carlton hotel-condo project, once slated to open in 2011, is now dead, a victim of the global downturn.
