To be honest, I'm not sure why the Gritti is so revered. I was less than impressed by their service, even less impressed by the quality of the rooms (albeit their Bang & Ollufson TV remotes) marble bathroom floors, and the antique furniture in the room - the rest really left me not wanting to go back =( There were many other hotels in the area that after arriving in Venice I had wished I had known about them. I left my travel arrangements up to American Express, and while they get you to and fro in total luxury, be prepared to spend around 3000/night at this hotel for a decent luxury suite.
Would I do it again, no - they wouldnt even bring ice to my room upon my arrival - and they left a bottle of 'Champagne' in my room - Asti Spumante....seriously, don't be fooled by the hype this place is just a uber expensive marriot =(
