Concierge.com's insider take:
A ten-minute stroll south of Hoan Kiem Lake, this 33-room hotel appeals to travelers who want the feel of an urban boutique hotel in a neighborhood that hasn't been swallowed by tourism. The layout's a bit quirkythe narrow nine-story building vaults behind the facade of an old villabut the quarters are spacious and the beds comfortable. The best rooms front Tran Hung Dao Street, with good views of the surrounding French Quarter. That's a blessing, as interior decor is simple and straightforward: clean-lined wooden furniture, white walls, soft lighting, an undersized original oil painting or two. All deluxe rooms and suites have whirlpool baths and free Internet access, but the musty rooftop minigymwith a single treadmill and a pair of stationary bikesseems an afterthought. The very affordable rate includes an excellent breakfast, with omelets made to order in the Cay Cau restaurant, which also serves up tasty Vietnamese entrées in the evenings. English-speaking staff is helpful, while the maids don't miss a speck of dustor even a misplaced passport, which was quickly delivered to the front desk.
