Concierge.com's insider take:
A bargain of a boutique hotel stuffed with elegant details, the 61-room Regina is located in the old Przezdziecki Palace, now restored in a palate of earth tones, with lots of sandstone and dark wood. Individually designed frescoes help enliven the generously sized superior bedrooms, while bathrooms are huge and include heated towel racks and rain showers. Flat-screen TVs and wireless LAN service are also bonuses in this budget range, as are the dining room's vaulted ceilings. (On the other hand, the $27 breakfast buffet is a bit steep for this part of the world.) There's also the New Town location: Quiet and undiscovered-feeling, this cobblestone corner of Warsaw still feels like WWII never happened.
From the editors of Condé Nast Traveler:
With an ideal location at the edge of the Old Town, Le Regina has instantly become the best place to stay in the Polish capital. Occupying an arcaded Gothic palace that once housed the American embassy, this 61-room hotel is serenely masculine, with streamlined dark-wood furniture and a cream, dove gray, mocha, and taupe color scheme. Besides a canvas or two by contemporary Polish artists, the major decorative element in most rooms is a handsome hand-painted baroque niche above the headboard, on either side of which are switches that control all the lights in the room. Twenty-four-hour room service comes courtesy of Le Brasserie, the hotel's excellent nouveau-Polish restaurant, and the basement fitness center includes a small swimming pool.2005 Hot ListWhen to go: Early summer.
