Located on the ground floor of the "Langston" apartment house Busboys & Poets (named after "the busboy poet" Langston Hughes) is a big attraction on the historic U Street corridor, which is the old and newly revitalized African-American entertainment. "Busboys" as its affectionately known attracts a mixed race crowd of urban hipsters, political people, theater people, and random intellectuals. It's the best place in DC for people watching. In a special stage room in the back it frequently hosts poetry slams, open mics, artist presentations, and lectures. The front bar and restaurant area is very elegant and not too overwhelming noise wise. Food is reasonably priced with variety from burgers to pasta, salads, and amazing desserts. The bar has several great beers and plenty of selection. There is also a political bookstore with a lefty bend. Even if you don't share the politics you will still love the atmosphere! report a problem
