If you love opera, but also need a break from the usual, I've discovered the New York Festival Of Song. They present uniquely themed evenings covering all manner of music -- you can literally hear Bruce Springsteen and Rachmaninoff on the same night, sung by fabulous young artists from major opera houses. They also do a lot of Broadway composers. And the concerts are hosted and accompanied by Steven Blier, who has enormous charm and brilliant musicianship. They perform at Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center on West 67th Street, just two blocks from Lincoln Center. Don't know how I missed this organization, I've been going to concerts all my life. They also get rave reviews from the New York Times and all the other critics. You can find them on the Merkin Hall web site, which is www.kaufman-center.org. Their season opens in a few weeks, and I won't miss it! report a problem
